Haneen: From Founding Community to Global Platform
Four phases. Three years. Starting with 50 hand-picked founding members and a single city. Here is how we build Haneen into the home every diaspora community deserves.
There are 281 million international migrants in the world. None of them have a digital home built for their kind of longing.
Mainstream dating and social apps optimize for proximity and volume. Diaspora communities need something different: depth, shared memory, values alignment, and the comfort of being understood without explanation. That is what Haneen is for.
We are not trying to compete with Hinge or Bumble. We are building a different category — values-driven connection for people who carry two worlds inside them. Palestinian at the root. Every diaspora welcome.
Why the moment is right
Three things have converged to make Haneen possible today:
The gap is values, not geography
Diaspora people want partners who already understand what it means to hold two homelands at once. Swiping on location alone will never solve that.
Community is the moat
Referral-only trust networks create density that paid acquisition never can. Once the right people are inside, others want in.
Timing is right
Post-2023 has created a global surge in Palestinian and Arab diaspora identity and solidarity. People are actively seeking community.
The model: four phases, one north star
We grow slowly on purpose. Each phase unlocks the next. No venture capital shortcuts. No open sign-ups. No growth hacks.
Seed
"50 founding members. One city. Zero ads."
Hand-pick your founding cohort. No open sign-ups. You reach out personally. Curate for values, not numbers. The first 50 members set the culture permanently.
Palestinian diaspora-first. Start with the community that gave Haneen its name and its heart. Prove the product works for them before expanding outward.
Prove the feeling, not the feature. Can two people from this community feel truly understood through your product? That is the only question in Phase 1.
One city, Romantic mode only. London, New York, or Toronto. Pick one. Community mode comes in Phase 2.
Roots
"1,000 members. 3 cities. First revenue."
Activate the referral engine. Every founding member gets three invite codes. Scarcity is a feature, not a constraint. The waiting list creates desire.
Community mode launches. "Find your people" goes live. Travel, relocation, and belonging use cases unlock a second growth loop.
City coordinators (part-time). One trusted person per city curates, hosts events, and maintains the culture locally. Hire from within the member base.
Premium tier at $15/month. Unlimited likes, read receipts, and Community mode access. The free tier stays for discovery and trust-building.
Canopy
"10,000 members. 10 cities. Full product."
Both modes fully active. Romantic and Community modes each have their own growth loop, event calendar, and engagement metrics.
Events as a growth engine. Monthly city dinners, activism events, and cultural nights. These convert curiosity into membership better than any ad ever will.
First 3 to 4 hires. Head of Community, one engineer, one city lead. Hire from within the member base where possible. The team should feel like the community.
Diaspora org partnerships. Palestinian cultural organizations, Arab student unions, and diaspora NGOs become co-hosts for events and growth partners.
Forest
"100,000+ members. Global. Profitable."
Global expansion. UK, Canada, MENA, and Gulf diaspora markets — each led by a local community team who knows the culture from the inside.
The Diaspora Passport. A travel and relocation feature: members find community in any Haneen city before they arrive. The world becomes smaller.
B2B partnerships. Diaspora NGOs, cultural foundations, and student organizations pay for community access and event co-hosting rights.
The brand is the moat. Haneen becomes synonymous with diaspora belonging. No competitor can buy that history.
The North Star
The mission is not to build a dating app.
The mission is to make sure that no one from a diaspora community ever has to feel alone.
